Wike loyalists succumb, postpone Bayelsa rally, cites reasons

A pro-Wike group in Bayelsa has announced the postponement of its solidarity rally, initially set to take place in Yenagoa, citing security concerns and a court injunction.

George Turnah, leader of the NEW Associates and South-South zonal secretary of the PDP, made the disclosure while addressing the press.

He said the rally was originally organized to express gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike for recognizing Bayelsa natives in federal appointments.

However, opposition from the state government and a court order prohibiting the event forced the organizers to reconsider.

Adding to the tension, a rival rally in support of Governor Douye Diri was scheduled for the same date and venue.

In the spirit of peace and unity, Turnah said the group decided to shift its gathering to April 26.

He explained that the decision was also influenced by appeals from Ijaw leaders, who urged a peaceful resolution to the brewing tension.

Turnah urged members and sympathizers of the group to remain calm and prepare for the new date, assuring them that the rally would still take place as planned, albeit later than expected.
