U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Lagos to close Monday for Presidents’ Day

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, the diplomatic mission confirmed the temporary closure, assuring the public that regular operations would resume on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 18, 2025,” the statement read.

Presidents’ Day, celebrated on the third Monday of February each year, is a federal holiday in the United States dedicated to honoring past and present leaders of the country.

While essential services will remain available through emergency contact channels, routine consular services will only resume after the holiday. Nigerians planning to visit the embassy or consulate for visa applications or other consular matters are advised to schedule their appointments accordingly.
