Reps moves to end prosecution immunity for vice president, governors

The House of Representatives has advanced a bill that seeks to remove the legal immunity protecting the Vice President, governors, and their deputies from prosecution while in office.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Solomon Bob, proposes an amendment to Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution to enhance accountability.

If enacted, only the President would retain immunity from civil and criminal proceedings.

During Wednesday’s plenary, lawmakers debated the bill alongside 41 other constitutional amendment proposals.

It has now been referred to the House Committee on Constitution Review for further evaluation.
