Abia State Governor Alex Otti has described the Supreme Court’s decision to dissolve the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party as a step towards restoring calm and unity within the party ranks.
MCC reported early yesterday that the Supreme Court of Nigeria overturned the verdict asserting Julius Abure as the Chairman of the Labour Party.
However, in his reaction to the judgment, Otti said the ruling validates the actions taken by the party to address leadership issues.
He pointed out that the tenure of Abure and his team had already ended, prompting the party to install a caretaker leadership with Esther Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha as chairperson and secretary respectively.
Otti said the move aimed at fostering harmony and strengthening the party’s foundation after its significant performance in the last election cycle.
He lauded the apex court for what he termed a thoughtful ruling that resonates with the desires of many Labour Party members and Nigerians at large.
He also extended gratitude to those who remained steadfast during the leadership tussle.
Otti urged former national officers to work together with the newly formed party structures, emphasizing the commitment of current party leaders to inclusiveness, fairness, and unity moving forward.
