#EndHunger: protesters reject new anthem, sing ‘Arise O Compatriots’

On Thursday in Port Harcourt #EndBadGovernance protesters opted to sing the former national anthem, “Arise O Compatriots,” rather than the recently reintroduced “Nigeria We Hail Thee.”

The federal government had reintroduced “Nigeria We Hail Thee” a few months ago. However, during the protests, demonstrators were seen singing “Arise O Compatriots” in a show of solidarity and in a demand for better governance from President Bola Tinubu.

President Tinubu officially reinstated “Nigeria We Hail Thee” on May 29, 2024.

Throughout the country, Nigerians took to the streets on Thursday to protest against worsening hunger and escalating food prices.
