Former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Maharazu Tsiga, and 18 others abducted in Katsina State have been freed after nearly two months in captivity.
On Thursday, the National Counter Terrorism Center officially handed them over to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, at a ceremony in Abuja.
Tsiga and the victims were kidnapped on February 5, 2025, in his hometown, Tisga, located in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Their release on Wednesday marked the end of a 56-day ordeal.
Speaking at the event, Ribadu commended security and intelligence agencies for their role in securing their freedom.
“The government remains committed to ensuring the safety of all Nigerians and will continue to combat the menace of kidnapping,” he said.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts to address the rising cases of abductions in Northern Nigeria, where criminal groups operate with increasing boldness.
