Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to implementing legislative measures aimed at positioning Nigeria for a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Speaking on Tuesday at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja during a meeting with a delegation from the United Kingdom Parliament, Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District, highlighted the impact of recent legislative efforts on economic growth and citizens’ welfare.
He stressed that the National Assembly remains focused on strengthening Nigeria’s economic framework and enhancing political stability to ensure national security.
“As Senate Leader, I have worked closely with colleagues across party lines to pass key legislation designed to boost economic competitiveness and set Nigeria on the path to achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Many of these policies are already making a tangible difference in people’s lives,” Bamidele stated.
He also underscored the importance of international collaborations with parliamentary bodies to improve institutional capacity and governance.
Addressing gender inclusivity, Bamidele assured the delegation that the 10th Senate would prioritize policies aimed at increasing women’s representation in government.
Kate Osamor, the leader of the UK delegation, called for more women to be included in Nigeria’s National Assembly, emphasizing the need to close the gender gap in political representation.
“A nation’s progress is reflected in the diversity of its elected officials. We must work towards ensuring that more women have a place in legislative decision-making,” Osamor said.
