The Lagos State Police Command has responded to public concerns following the arrest and remand of 18-year-old Alabi Quadri, who is currently facing trial alongside four others over a violent clash in the Amukoko area earlier this year.
In a statement issued on Saturday, April 19, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that the young men were apprehended in connection with a violent altercation that broke out on January 22.
The incident reportedly led to widespread unrest, destruction of both public and private property, and injuries to innocent residents.
“Several groups of youths were involved in confrontations that escalated into full-blown street fights, sparking panic and chaos across Amukoko,” Hundeyin revealed.
He added that during the incident, some individuals who had no part in the violence were assaulted and robbed.
According to him, swift police intervention led to the launch of a detailed investigation, with crucial leads provided by eyewitnesses and victims who were able to identify some of the suspects.
“Community members who witnessed the violence came forward to provide useful information, while victims of the robbery gave statements and identified the culprits,” Hundeyin said.
Following the investigation, Quadri and the other suspects were arrested, arraigned, and ordered to be remanded at a correctional facility pending the outcome of court proceedings.
Addressing criticism of the police’s actions, Hundeyin emphasized that due process was strictly followed and that the investigation was based on verified evidence.
“All steps taken by the police were in line with the law and backed by credible findings during the probe,” he noted.
He called on the public to allow the legal process to proceed without interference, assuring that the Command is open to engaging stakeholders to address any concerns.
“The Command remains committed to justice and transparency and is willing to engage with the public, opinion leaders, and community groups to ensure fairness,” Hundeyin stated.
Reaffirming the role of the police, he explained that once a case is filed in court, it becomes the judiciary’s responsibility to determine the outcome.
He concluded with an appeal for calm, urging Lagos residents to remain peaceful while the legal process unfolds.
