Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a media gag order in the case filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and three others.
The ruling came during Friday’s court session after Akpabio’s counsel, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), informed the court that the plaintiff had been publicly discussing the matter in several media appearances.
Justice Nyako, in her directive, forbade all parties and their attorneys from granting interviews or making public statements about the ongoing case.
She further restricted them from broadcasting or live-streaming the court sessions on social media.
This development follows the reassignment of the case from Justice Obiora Egwuatu to Justice Nyako.
Justice Egwuatu had stepped down on March 25, 2025, citing a claim of bias raised by the third defendant, Akpabio, as a potential barrier to justice.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is challenging a Senate probe into her alleged misconduct during a February 20 plenary session.
Her suit aims to prevent the Senate’s Ethics and Privileges Committee from continuing its disciplinary process against her.
