BREAKING: Obasa wins legal battle as court overturns Assembly decision

The Lagos High Court in Ikeja has ruled in favour of Mudashiru Obasa, affirming that his dismissal as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly was unlawful and unconstitutional.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, the court held that the actions taken by the Assembly on January 13, 2025, including the election of Mojisola Meranda as Speaker, were null and void.

Obasa had taken legal action against both the legislative house and Meranda, contesting the legitimacy of the process that led to his removal.

According to the judgment, the Assembly did not adhere to the constitutional procedures required for removing a Speaker, thereby rendering their actions invalid.

The court’s decision not only reinstates Obasa’s position but also sets aside all resolutions made on the day he was ousted. Legal experts see this as a major win for legislative accountability and due process in state governance.
