Residents of Bakura town in Zamfara State were thrown into chaos late Sunday night after suspected bandits launched a surprise assault, leaving one person injured and several others missing.
The attack, which took place in Bakura Local Government Area, was confirmed by a prominent security analyst, Bakatsine, who shared details of the incident on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“ALERT: Yesterday night, bandits stormed Bakura town, Bakura LGA in Zamfara State shooting sporadically.
“They injured one person and abducted several people during the attack,” Bakatsine posted early Monday.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and opened fire immediately, sending residents fleeing for their lives.
“It was terrifying,” one local who preferred anonymity told reporters. “They shot into the air, broke into homes, and dragged people away.”
Though authorities have yet to comment officially, sources indicate that efforts are ongoing to secure the victims’ release and tighten security in the area.
This incident adds to the growing list of violent attacks that have plagued Zamfara State, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated action against rising insecurity in Nigeria’s northwestern region.
