Gov Alia renames Benue State University

-

The Benue State University in Makurdi has been officially renamed Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), following the implementation of a state law passed by the Benue State House of Assembly and signed by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

This development was disclosed in an internal memo issued by the university’s Registrar’s office and dated May 12, 2025.

The change takes effect in recognition of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu, the founding father of the institution and a former Governor of Benue State.

According to the memo signed by Terna Alu, Deputy Registrar in charge of Council and Management Affairs, the renaming reflects the official policy and decision of the Benue State Government.

It further stated that the new name is now legally in force and that the institution will continue to pursue its academic mandate under its updated identity.

The memo directed all principal officers, deans, directors, and heads of departments to ensure that all future communications, official documents, and correspondence reflect the new name: Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).

This directive, according to the Registrar’s office, stems from a resolution of the University’s Management Committee and is expected to be implemented without delay.

Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu, whose name the institution now bears, was a revered cleric and visionary political leader who established the university during his time as Governor, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the state’s educational sector.
