Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as “Portable,” has been arrested by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command.
This follows a petition accusing him of multiple offences, including criminal defamation and threats to life.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the development in a press release issued on Sunday, April 13.
Ejire-Adeyemi explained that the arrest was initiated after a formal complaint was lodged by Mr Okunola Saheed, popularly referred to as “Osupa.”
“The allegations include criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting words,” she stated.
Based on the severity of the claims and evidence presented, the Command sought and obtained an arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Following the court’s approval, police officers were dispatched to Abeokuta in Ogun State, where Portable was taken into custody at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday.
“He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigations,” the spokesperson added.
Ejire-Adeyemi noted that Portable’s statement was recorded in the presence of legal representatives from both sides involved in the matter.
The singer remains in custody as the authorities make arrangements to arraign him in court.
Reiterating the Command’s dedication to justice, she said, “The Kwara State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served in a fair and transparent manner.”
She also called on the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information as the case develops.
