A 49-year-old driver, Azeez Ogunrinde, has been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja for allegedly causing damage to a truck owned by his employer.

The defendant, whose home address was not disclosed in court, is facing a three-count charge related to malicious damage and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The prosecution, led by SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the alleged offences occurred between April 22 and April 24 during the defendant’s journey across various parts of Lagos.

Ogunrinde was accused of using a company truck, registered as SMK 914 XW and belonging to GPC Energy and Logistics Ltd., without proper authorisation.

He allegedly transported unapproved goods without the knowledge or consent of the company.

Ikhayere further stated that the driver disconnected the truck’s tracking system in a bid to carry out the unauthorised delivery secretly.

The vehicle’s axle was reportedly damaged due to the excess weight of the cargo, which was not approved by the employer.

The prosecutor said the actions contravened Sections 168(d) and 350 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, and requested an adjournment to allow her review the case file and prepare witnesses.

The defendant entered a not-guilty plea in response to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Lateef Owolabi granted Ogunrinde bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with two sureties in the same amount. The case was adjourned until June 5 for mention.
