Donnarumma stands tall as PSG ends Arsenal’s Champions League dream

-

Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League fairytale came to a crushing halt in Paris on Wednesday night as PSG triumphed 2-1 in the semi-final second leg to secure a 3-1 aggregate victory and a ticket to the final.

PSG came into the game with a slim 1-0 first-leg advantage and didn’t waste time reinforcing their lead. Fabián Ruiz fired home from distance in the 27th minute to settle the nerves.

A golden opportunity for Arsenal to claw back came when a penalty was awarded to PSG, but David Raya produced heroics to deny Vitinha.

Yet just minutes later, Hakimi found the net after a clever buildup, making it 2-0 on the night and 3-0 overall.

Arsenal responded through Bukayo Saka in the 76th minute, but Donnarumma and the PSG defence shut the door on any comeback attempts.

With this result, PSG continues their quest for a maiden Champions League crown and will battle Inter Milan in Munich.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a campaign that promised so much but fell just short of glory.
