A 33-year-old alleged serial rapist, Chidiebere Mbene, has been apprehended by the Anambra State Police Command.
He was arrested for the gruesome murder of 15-year-old Nwokedi Michael Somtochukwu and the sexual assault of the victim’s elder sister in Unubi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The arrest, announced on April 18, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the community.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga revealed that Mbene allegedly assaulted the boy’s sister before killing the teenager on April 15, 2025, and then fled.
Thanks to the Nnewi community’s prompt cooperation, the suspect was swiftly captured, showcasing the strength of community-police collaboration.
Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu lauded the public’s role in the arrest, stating, “This success underscores the importance of collective vigilance in combating crime.”
He reaffirmed the police’s dedication to pursuing justice and curbing criminal activities across Anambra.
The investigation has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for an in-depth probe.
CP Orutugu emphasized that the police will continue to work closely with communities to identify and apprehend criminals, ensuring safety and order in the state.
