Reprisal attack destroys 24 homes, 16 granaries in Jigawa community

A retaliatory attack by youths from Zangon Maje village has left 24 houses and 16-grain silos in ruins at Gidan Na Ruwa Fulani Settlement in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

According to eyewitnesses, the assault took place on Monday when a large armed group stormed the settlement, chanting war slogans.

Alarmed by the approaching mob, residents fled for safety.

Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident, stating that around 9:45 p.m. on March 9, 2025, security operatives received reports of a large group from Zangon Maje moving toward Gidan Na Ruwa with torches and threatening chants.

Upon arrival at the scene, the Divisional Police Officer of Taura and his team found that several structures had already been set ablaze by the attackers.

Initial investigations indicated that the violence stemmed from an earlier dispute in which two young men from Zangon Maje—20-year-old Musa Hussaini and 26-year-old Shanu Sule—were beaten with sticks and had their motorcycle stolen.

In response, they rallied members of their community for retaliation.

Authorities confirmed that normalcy has been restored, with increased security patrols to prevent further unrest.

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack and are currently assisting with the investigation.

The police command has cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, urging them to seek legal avenues for resolving disputes to avoid severe consequences.
