The Imo State Police Command has arrested two individuals, Confidence Odoh and Eze Chika, for alleged involvement in child trafficking.
The police also successfully rescued two children from the suspects.
In a statement released on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, revealed that one of the suspects attempted to bribe officers with ₦1 million to avoid arrest, but the offer was rejected.
According to the police, Odoh, a 32-year-old resident of Umuanyo Eziobodo in Owerri West LGA, was apprehended on February 4, 2025, for allegedly kidnapping her former neighbor’s three-year-old son, Nzubechi Ududiri, on February 1.
Investigations showed that she took the child while he was playing within his residential compound. The police were able to rescue the boy and reunite him with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ududiri Michael. Efforts are ongoing to track down any accomplices.
In a separate operation along the Owerri-Aba expressway, law enforcement officers arrested Eze Chika, a 45-year-old resident of Obiokwara Umualoma in Ideato North LGA.
She was allegedly found in possession of a four-year-old child whom she initially claimed to be her own.
However, further interrogation revealed that she had purchased the child for ₦1.8 million from a suspected trafficking network in Aba.
The police have assured the public that investigations are still ongoing to dismantle any related syndicates and bring all culprits to justice.
