Umar Auwal, who is feared across Kano under the nickname “Abba Dujal,” has surrendered to the state police following a coordinated crackdown targeting high-crime zones.
Police intelligence shared with Zagazola Makama revealed that the suspect, who resides in Wudil LGA, reported himself to the Command’s Anti-Thuggery Squad at approximately 5 p.m. on April 14.
During questioning, Auwal allegedly confessed to being responsible for a string of violent crimes, including armed robbery, murder, and stealing motorcycles and phones in various communities.
A police official confirmed that the man is currently in detention while investigators work to map out his network and apprehend any accomplices.
His decision to surrender came just days after a sweeping operation on April 12, during which 61 individuals were taken into custody from crime-prone areas throughout Kano.
Several stolen items and tools used for criminal activity were also recovered.
“Our officers are working tirelessly to rid Kano of all forms of criminality,” said a police representative.
“We remain steadfast in our intelligence-led strategy to protect the lives and property of our citizens.”
