Lagos govt shuts down popular Lekki mall, arrests 24 for violating regulations

The Lagos State Government has shut down Westbrook Mall in Lekki and arrested 24 individuals for disregarding state orders, according to Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.

Wahab revealed on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday that the mall’s management had previously violated state regulations on two occasions.

Despite earlier warnings and a prior sealing, the mall continued operating in defiance of government orders.

Following these repeated violations, a joint enforcement operation by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LSWMO) and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) took place on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Wahab confirmed that 24 individuals were arrested during the operation and would face prosecution, while the mall was resealed to prevent any further unauthorized activities.

He also stated that the management of Westbrook Mall would be required to pay fines as stipulated under Lagos State law.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its firm stance on enforcing compliance with all environmental and regulatory standards, warning businesses to adhere to established regulations.
