A late-night assault by armed men at an off-campus student lodge has led to the abduction of a student of Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, and the fatal shooting of a nearby resident.
Jamilu Magaji, the university’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Istijaba Villa in Unguwar Jeji.
The attackers, armed and aggressive, encountered students outside their rooms and demanded money. When told there was none, they became violent.
During the incident, a neighbour, Malam Siddi Hussaini, who was in the vicinity tending to his animals, was killed after attempting to approach the scene.
The gunmen abducted Augustine Madubiya, a final-year student of Economics. Fortunately, another student, Collaneous Steven, managed to flee.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Zaiyan-Umar, visited the scene with security agencies and addressed concerned students. He assured them of the university’s proactive measures to enhance their safety.
The case has been escalated to the Kebbi State Government, with appeals for stronger security support.
