A security officer posted to Otobi Dam in Otukpo LGA, Benue State, was killed Friday night by individuals believed to be herdsmen, adding to the region’s growing list of security breaches.
The fatal incident is the latest in a wave of bloodshed that has affected several parts of Otukpo.
Confirming the attack, the Otukpo/Akpa constituency representative in the State Assembly, Hon. Angbo Kennedy, decried the repeated violence and called for immediate action.
“This madness must end. A guard lost his life today at Otobi Dam in the hands of herdsmen. It’s time we started protecting ourselves,” he said.
As of now, the victim’s identity has not been released, and no arrests have been announced.
Communities across Otukpo are urging the government to reinforce security around rural settlements and key installations.
The Otobi attack comes after similar assaults in Okpomaju, Okete, and Asa—areas that have suffered fatalities and displacement.
Only a day earlier, assailants hijacked a Benue Links vehicle, killing two and kidnapping over a dozen passengers, further intensifying fears among locals.
