A deadly attack on five villages in Plateau State’s Bokkos Local Government Area has left at least 10 people dead, marking yet another wave of violence in the region.
The latest assault on April 2 follows a similar incident just six days earlier in Ruwi community, where 10 people were shot dead and three others injured during a night gathering.
Farmasum Fuddang, chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), confirmed the attack, stating that the gunmen moved from one village to another, despite security forces attempting to intervene.
“The attackers initially tried to invade Mongor but were pushed back by security personnel. They then shifted their assault to Daffo, followed by Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai, where they continued their rampage,” Fuddang said.
He described the killings as part of a growing security crisis, revealing that over 20 people had been murdered in the past week.
He urged the government to provide immediate aid for displaced victims.
The attacks have sparked panic, forcing many residents to flee for their safety.
Reacting to the incident, Plateau State’s Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, condemned the violence and called for peace.
She assured that the government was working with security agencies to track down those responsible for the attacks.
