6 days after, whereabouts of kidnapped Delta ex-lawmaker still unknown

Six days after her abduction from a church in Asaba, Delta State, the whereabouts of Joan Mrakpor, a former House of Representatives member for the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, remain unknown.

Mrakpor, who also served as the state’s Commissioner for Technical Education, was kidnapped last Tuesday while attending a church service near the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) in Asaba. During the abduction, her police orderly and another person were shot dead.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers took Mrakpor to a waiting speedboat on the River Niger. They drove her to the riverbank at Otu-Ogwu Road in Asaba, set their car on fire, and then transferred her to the boat.

Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe stated that the police are still actively searching for the kidnappers.
