Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has reaffirmed her commitment to visiting her constituency for the Sallah celebration and her homecoming.
She dismissed speculations that she had cancelled her trip due to restrictions imposed by the Kogi State Government.
In a statement on Tuesday, her office confirmed that plans for the visit remained unchanged and urged supporters to disregard misinformation.
“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central will proceed as scheduled,” the statement read. “There has been no official announcement from our office regarding any cancellation.”
She emphasized her duty as an elected representative to engage with her constituents and encouraged them to participate in the celebrations.
“As the senator for Kogi Central, she remains dedicated to fostering unity and cooperation within the community,” the statement continued.
“All necessary preparations have been made for a successful and joyous event, and we invite everyone to join in marking this special occasion.”
Her decision comes amid security concerns in Kogi State, where authorities have banned public gatherings and activities like fishing, citing recent violent incidents.
Kogi’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, stated that intelligence reports indicated certain groups were planning violent demonstrations under the pretence of political and religious gatherings.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, recently suspended from the Senate for six months over a dispute regarding seating arrangements, has also accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
