BREAKING: 12 inmates break out of Kogi prison in early morning escape

Twelve prisoners fled the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, during a jailbreak early Monday morning.

Kogi State’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the escape, describing it as an unfortunate incident.

He assured the public that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, is working swiftly to prevent a recurrence.

Fanwo disclosed that one of the escapees had already been recaptured while security operatives were intensifying efforts to track down the others.

He expressed concerns over reports that the inmates escaped via the facility’s tower without causing structural damage, stressing the need for a thorough investigation.

Authorities aim to uncover how the breakout happened, locate the fugitives, and identify any internal collaborators.

Governor Usman Ododo has directed security forces to strengthen surveillance at correctional centres across the state to prevent further breaches.

Fanwo urged residents to report any suspicious individuals, warning that those who harbour escaped prisoners will face legal action.

“There is no need for panic,” he assured. “People should go about their daily activities with confidence, knowing that the protection of lives and property remains our top priority.”
