Benue Bishop urges Christians to confront killings with prayer, faith

Rev. Wilfred Anagbe, the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, has encouraged believers to embrace prayer as their most potent response to the crisis that has gripped their communities.

Delivering a sermon during the annual Chrism Mass on Thursday in Makurdi, Bishop Anagbe expressed deep concern over the unceasing attacks that have uprooted families and devastated communities, pushing many into displacement camps.

He disclosed that IDPs under his diocese’s care are now scattered across nine locations, a situation he described as heartbreaking.

According to the bishop, the prolonged stay in such camps is not a solution but a dangerous concession to those who have taken over their lands.

“We cannot let our ancestral homes be permanently lost. Prayer is our strength and our shield,” he stated. “When we place our hope in God, we’re never disappointed.”

He urged the faithful to remain hopeful and forward-looking, anchored in unwavering faith, as they seek a permanent resolution to their plight.
