Bauchi police decry Mansur village attack, vow justice as probe begins

The Bauchi State Police Command has denounced the recent deadly ambush in Mansur village, Alkaleri Local Government Area, calling it a disturbing assault on the state’s peace and security.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, disclosed that an investigation had been launched to uncover the perpetrators behind the attack.

The command said it received a report around 9:40 a.m. on Sunday from the Alkaleri Divisional Headquarters. In response, tactical teams were immediately deployed to the scene while the commissioner visited the area for an on-the-spot assessment.

According to the statement, the violence occurred at about 5:40 a.m. when a joint patrol team made up of hunters from Duguri and Gwana districts was ambushed by armed assailants while combing the Duguri–Mansur–Dajin Madam forest corridor, which borders Plateau State.

The ambush resulted in several casualties among the local vigilantes and civilians fleeing from nearby Sabuwar Sara village, the police said.

While addressing stakeholders in the area, CP Aliyu urged community members to remain calm and assist with credible intelligence. He gave assurance that all those responsible for the killings would be tracked down and prosecuted.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and extend our condolences to the families affected. The command remains committed to securing every corner of Bauchi State,” the commissioner stated.

He further appealed to residents to support ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the region, pledging that the police would not relent in the fight against insecurity.
