Atiku’s 2027 coalition denies ADC alliance, dismisses leadership appointment rumours

-

The Atiku Abubakar-led coalition gearing up for the 2027 elections has categorically denied claims that it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform, labelling such reports as misleading and unfounded.

Malam Salihu Moh Lukman, a notable member of the coalition and former North-West Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also rejected assertions that he had been appointed to lead the coalition’s secretariat.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 22, Lukman clarified that no such appointment had been made, urging the public to disregard what he described as false media reports.

“My attention was drawn to a publication by Vanguard alleging my appointment as head of the coalition’s secretariat. That claim is completely baseless—no such decision has been taken,” he stated.

Lukman also debunked reports that the coalition had resolved to adopt the ADC as its platform during a meeting held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

He noted that discussions among coalition leaders were still ongoing and that a consensus on the political vehicle for 2027 had not yet been reached.

He accused certain actors of deliberately spreading falsehoods in an attempt to sow discord within the group.

“It is clear some individuals are circulating fabricated stories to destabilize the coalition’s progress and unity,” Lukman said.

He urged both the public and the media to treat such reports with skepticism and wait for an official announcement once internal consultations are concluded.
