Armed robbers attack Bayelsa Rhythm FM twice in 24 hours

-

Armed criminals believed to be robbers have attacked Rhythm 94.7 FM in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, seizing valuable property such as smartphones, recorders, and other tools used for broadcast operations.

The first break-in occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday in the Swali community, where the station is located, with a second intrusion reported the following day.

No injuries were sustained, but the psychological impact on the staff has been significant.

Reacting to the alarming incident, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa chapter, issued a strong condemnation.

In a statement signed by Chairman Tonye Yemoleigha and Secretary Stanley Imgbi, the union labelled the attack as a violation of media sanctity and an affront to press freedom.

They demanded urgent action from security agencies to track down the attackers and called for a permanent police presence around the radio station, noting its relatively isolated location.
