Federal tertiary institutions have been directed to upload their financial and academic records to their official websites by the end of May 2025, following a new policy from the Federal Ministry of Education.
In a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Boriowo Folasade, Minister Tunji Alausa said heads of institutions must release their annual budget details, including breakdowns of staff salaries, overhead costs, and infrastructure spending.
He also directed schools to make public any external research grants secured from global partners and multilateral organisations.
Institutions are expected to include data on support received from TETFund, as well as disclose the total worth of their endowment funds as recorded at the close of the previous year.
The minister emphasized that these figures, particularly those related to endowment funds, must be updated every quarter to ensure ongoing transparency.
In addition to financial data, universities and other federal institutions must publish their student population numbers to reflect current enrollment and academic capacity.
The ministry stressed that the data must be organized in a clear and user-friendly manner to allow easy access by stakeholders.
Alausa noted that the move is part of broader education reforms designed to boost transparency, attract performance-based funding, and improve Nigeria’s international educational standing.
