Burkina Faso makes history with U-17 AFCON quarterfinals, World Cup qualification

Burkina Faso has become the first team to secure qualification for both the 2025 CAF U-17 AFCON quarterfinals and the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Egypt on Thursday night solidified their position as one of the tournament’s top contenders.

The West African side has a rich history in the competition, with five podium finishes, including their first title in 2011. They have also finished as runners-up in 1999 and 2001.

Burkina Faso’s win over Egypt was marked by goals from Issouf Dabo and Asharaf Tabsoba, while Belal Ateya scored a late consolation goal for Egypt. The team’s resilient defense held firm, securing their second consecutive victory and a well-deserved ticket to the quarterfinals.

With qualification sealed, Burkina Faso will now focus on their final group fixture against South Africa. A victory would maintain their flawless group-stage run and send a warning to their future opponents.

Burkina Faso’s triumph marks a new era of promise for their youth development program, and with a World Cup ticket already secured, they will now set their sights on claiming continental glory.
