Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has downplayed the abuse he receives from some Spurs supporters, saying it doesn’t affect him and he “will continue fighting.”
The Australian coach made the comments after Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea, which marked the team’s 16th defeat in 30 Premier League games this season.
Postecoglou cupped his ear in the direction of the traveling Spurs fans after a disallowed goal, sparking speculation about his reaction to the abuse.
However, he clarified that he was simply celebrating what he thought was a legitimate goal.
The coach also criticized the VAR system, saying it’s “killing the game” due to lengthy delays. He expressed frustration with the 12 minutes of extra time added to the Chelsea match, which he believes is not what VAR was intended for.
Despite Tottenham’s struggles, Postecoglou remains focused on the Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt. The team retains hopes of ending a 17-year wait for silverware this season.
Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham has been uncertain, with some fans calling for his dismissal. However, he remains committed to his job and has repeatedly cited the team’s injury list as a factor in their poor form.
With speculation surrounding his position, Postecoglou acknowledged that there are “outstanding candidates” who could replace him if he is sacked. Nonetheless, he remains determined to turn Tottenham’s season around.
