Barcelona’s Olmo, Victor cleared to play for rest of season

Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) has ruled that Dani Olmo and Pau Victor are eligible to play for Barcelona for the remainder of the season. This decision comes after a lengthy dispute between La Liga and Barcelona regarding the club’s financial capacity to register the players.

La Liga had initially granted Barcelona temporary licenses for Olmo and Victor but later revoked them, citing the club’s failure to meet financial rules by the December 31 deadline. However, the CSD intervened, allowing Barcelona to temporarily reinstate the players.

La Liga maintained that Barcelona lacks the financial capacity to register the players, but the CSD annulled the agreement between La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The CSD declared the players’ registrations valid, as the RFEF acknowledged that there was no resolution to cancel the licenses.

La Liga plans to appeal the decision. The dispute began when La Liga lowered Barcelona’s wage cap due to irregularities in their end-of-year accounting for the 2024-25 season. Barcelona attempted to raise funds by selling VIP boxes at the Nou Camp stadium, but La Liga claimed the deal was not recorded in the club’s accounts and was approved by a different auditor.

Olmo, a Spain international, has featured 28 times for Barcelona this season, while Victor has played 22 times. Both players came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.
