No plans for N5,000, N10,000 notes – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has refuted claims that it plans to introduce N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes, calling the reports entirely untrue.

Taking to its official X account, the CBN urged the public to disregard the misinformation, stressing that the viral content did not originate from the bank.

“This content is NOT from the Central Bank of Nigeria,” the statement read, directing Nigerians to visit cbn.gov.ng for credible information.

The misleading reports, which have stirred confusion online, alleged that the new denominations were being introduced to streamline cash transactions and liquidity.

Some versions falsely claimed the rollout would take place on May 1, 2025.
