FCTA recruits 34 resident doctors for seven-year training program

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved the hiring of 34 resident doctors for a structured seven-year residency training program, aimed at enhancing healthcare services in Abuja.

This recruitment, authorized by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, is the initial phase of a planned intake of 60 medical residency trainees across eight specialized fields in FCTA hospitals.

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing the initiative’s importance in improving medical care.

“This initiative, which extends beyond the Health Management Board’s workforce, offers doctors more career opportunities and strengthens healthcare delivery in the FCT,” Olayinka stated.

The recruited doctors will specialize in various medical fields, including psychiatry (five), internal medicine (four), general surgery (one), anesthesiology (one), family medicine (eight), ophthalmology (six), and obstetrics and gynaecology (nine).

Olayinka further noted that the FCTA Civil Service Commission would soon initiate the process to recruit an additional 26 resident doctors in specialities such as psychiatry, internal medicine, general surgery, anesthesiology, and paediatrics.
