NiMet predicts three days of sunshine, cloudiness across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a combination of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.

According to the weather outlook released on Monday, northern Nigeria will experience mostly sunny conditions with scattered clouds on Tuesday.

However, isolated thunderstorms are expected later in the day in Adamawa, Kaduna, and Taraba states.

The North-Central region will see similar weather patterns, with possible morning thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi. By the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms could extend to Niger, Plateau, and Kwara states.

In the southern part of the country, morning thunderstorms are likely in Cross River and Akwa Ibom, while later in the day, thunderstorms may develop in Imo, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom.

By Wednesday, northern states will continue to have sunny skies with occasional cloud cover, with the possibility of thunderstorms in Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Kaduna later in the day.

The North-Central zone will experience similar conditions, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms expected in the FCT, Benue, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Plateau.

Across the South, partly cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected, alongside morning thunderstorms in Ogun, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa. Later in the day, thunderstorms could develop over Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, Enugu, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states.

By Thursday, sunny conditions with patches of clouds will persist in the North, with isolated thunderstorms predicted in Taraba in the afternoon.

The North-Central region will follow a similar trend, with possible thunderstorms in Benue, Kwara, and Kogi later in the day.

In the South, a mixture of cloudiness and sunshine is expected, with morning thunderstorms likely in Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom.

By the afternoon, thunderstorms may spread to Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers states.

NiMet advised residents to stay hydrated, limit exposure to direct sunlight, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The agency also recommended vaccinations against meningitis, maintaining good hygiene, and avoiding overcrowded places.

To prevent hazards associated with thunderstorms, NiMet warned against strong winds and urged airline operators to obtain accurate weather reports for safe flight operations.
