Fubara vows to uphold peace, rejects attempts to destabilize Rivers

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace in Rivers State despite ongoing political tensions, vowing to resist any attempts to destabilize the state.

Speaking at his private residence in Port Harcourt while hosting Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic organizations, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Fubara urged residents to remain calm and steadfast.

He reassured them that the crisis would not weaken Rivers but rather make it stronger.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara emphasized his dedication to justice and equality, promising that the concerns of the Muslim community would be addressed once the political situation stabilizes.

He also cautioned against individuals trying to incite violence, stating, “Their goal is to create problems and rob people of their livelihoods. We will not allow that.

“We will continue to uphold peace, respect constituted authority, and ensure Rivers remains a model for governance in Nigeria.”

Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor, who represented the Muslim Ummah, commended Fubara for promoting inclusivity, contrasting his approach with the previous administration, which declared Rivers a fully Christian state.

He assured the governor of the Muslim community’s unwavering support, emphasizing that Islamic teachings encourage perseverance through challenges.

Uhor further called on President Bola Tinubu to reassess the emergency rule in Rivers State and restore Fubara’s full authority, arguing that the governor had continued to lead effectively despite the political unrest.
