Police arrest suspect, uncover shallow grave of missing LASU graduate

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a shallow grave where Adedamola Ogunbode, a graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), was buried.

This discovery followed the arrest of the prime suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo.

Police sources confirmed that Ajisomo, who was initially believed to have fled to the Benin Republic, was apprehended on Monday in the Alakuko area of Lagos. Upon his arrest, he led investigators to the site where Ogunbode was buried.

Providing further details, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that Ajisomo had withdrawn all the funds from the victim’s bank account using his mobile device.

“The suspect was responsible for emptying Ogunbode’s bank account,” he said.

Ogunbode, a graduate of Political Science Education from LASU, was declared missing on January 16, 2025, raising widespread concern. Investigations later revealed that his body had been dismembered.

In connection to the case, three additional suspects were arrested last week, including a pastor, Whepetoji Sunday, who allegedly received N70,000 from the victim’s account, and a church member, Sheriff Adebayo, who reportedly obtained N300,000.

The suspect’s mother, Omolara Ajisomo, was also taken into custody for allegedly assisting her sons, Olaoluwa and Teniola, in evading capture after they transferred money from the deceased’s account.

Following growing pressure from student groups threatening demonstrations, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Owohundare Jimoh, has transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further handling.

Addressing speculations, CSP Hundeyin clarified that the burial site was not within a church compound, as some had claimed.

However, he confirmed that the church linked to one of the suspects had been sealed off to prevent potential unrest.

“The shallow grave is not located within the church premises. The church was sealed after intelligence suggested there were plans to set it ablaze,” he stated.

Meanwhile, detectives have begun the process of exhuming Ogunbode’s remains following the prime suspect’s reported confession.
