BREAKING: Suspected meningitis outbreak claims 26 lives in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Government has confirmed the deaths of 26 people following a suspected outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis in Aliero, Gwandu, and Jega local government areas

Cerebrospinal meningitis is a serious infection that causes inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It is often triggered by bacterial or viral infections and can spread through close human contact.

Symptoms typically include fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. If left untreated, the infection can lead to severe complications or even death.

Health officials are conducting further investigations, and more updates will follow as containment efforts continue.
