BREAKING: Rivers Assembly issues arrest warrant for RSIEC chairman over defiance

The Rivers State House of Assembly has ordered the arrest of Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), after he failed to honor an invitation from the lawmakers.

During a plenary session on Monday, the Assembly issued the warrant following the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum given to Enebeli.

Initially, the lawmakers had set a 48-hour deadline for his appearance, but last Friday, they extended it by another 24 hours to allow him to respond to questions regarding the annulled October 2024 local government elections.

Enebeli was expected to appear before the Assembly along with other RSIEC commissioners but failed to do so. Instead, he and his commissioners took legal action by filing a suit at the State High Court, challenging the Assembly’s resolutions.
