Businessman arrested for allegedly beating wife to death over Ramadan food

Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a businessman, Nuru Isah, for allegedly assaulting his 24-year-old wife, Wasila Abdullahi, leading to her death after a disagreement over meal preparations for breaking the Ramadan fast.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, the incident took place on Saturday night in the Fadamam Mada area.

Investigations revealed that Isah, a 50-year-old trader at Bauchi Central Market, got into an argument with his second wife over the management of food ingredients and fruits for iftar.

The disagreement escalated, resulting in him allegedly flogging her with a cane until she collapsed.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect struck his wife repeatedly with a cane, rendering her unconscious inside their home. She was later taken to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death,” Wakil stated.

Upon receiving the report, law enforcement officers launched an investigation, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The cane allegedly used in the attack has been recovered as evidence, while the deceased’s body has been placed in the mortuary for an autopsy.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, reaffirmed the commitment of the command to ensuring justice and holding those responsible for criminal acts accountable.
