JUST IN: NECO releases 2024 SSCE external examination results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with 57,114 candidates securing at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

Speaking at the official announcement in Minna on Friday, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, revealed that the overall pass rate stood at 67.35%.

The examination, conducted between November 14 and December 14, 2024, had a total of 86,067 registered candidates. Wushishi noted that the successful release of the results followed the standard procedures, including pre-examination, examination, and post-examination processes.

A total of 29 subjects were examined, with 83,220 candidates sitting for English Language and 83,024 for Mathematics. According to the results, 62,929 candidates (75.62%) achieved a credit and above in English Language, while 77,988 candidates (93.93%) attained the same in Mathematics. Additionally, 70,711 candidates, representing 83.39%, obtained five credits and above, regardless of English and Mathematics.

On examination malpractice, Wushishi disclosed that 6,160 candidates were caught engaging in various forms of misconduct, reflecting a 27.7% decline compared to 2023. He also announced that seven supervisors—two each from Oyo and Ogun, and one each from Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi—were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, and aiding malpractice. Furthermore, 14 examination centers—10 in Ogun and four in Oyo—were blacklisted for involvement in widespread malpractice across nine subjects.

Candidates can check their results on the NECO official website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration number.

Prof. Wushishi expressed appreciation to the federal government, the Minister of Education, and other stakeholders for their continued support. He also announced the launch of the 2025 Digitalised Staff Annual Posting Calendar, which staff members can access through apcic.neco.gov.ng/myapc.
