EFCC intensifies monitoring of local government funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched a renewed effort to track the allocation and utilization of funds in local governments across Nigeria.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed this initiative on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the National Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) at the commission’s headquarters.

During the meeting, NCYP representatives, led by Isaac Abrak, urged the EFCC to ensure strict oversight of local government funds to prevent mismanagement, especially following the recent financial autonomy granted to local councils.

In response, Olukoyede assured the delegation that the commission is already monitoring local government finances. He stated that the EFCC’s Fraud Risk Assessment and Control unit is actively tracking payments, contracts, and financial transactions at the grassroots level to prevent corruption.

He further encouraged the NCYP and Nigerians at large to promote integrity and accountability, emphasizing that ethical conduct should transcend religious affiliations and be rooted in national development.

The EFCC chairman reiterated the commission’s commitment to preventing financial malpractice and ensuring that public funds are used for the benefit of the people.
