NCoS rejects allegations of inmates’ release for robbery in delta

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Delta State Command has vehemently denied rumors that its officers are releasing inmates to participate in robbery activities, allegedly referred to as “Omila operations,” in the state.

There had been reports suggesting that wardens at Okere Prison in Warri were facilitating the release of inmates, who would later return to the facility. However, in a statement issued on Tuesday from Asaba, the NCoS Public Relations Officer, SC.

Allen Iloba, dismissed these allegations as false and unfounded.
The statement read, “The attention of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Delta State Command, has been drawn to an unsubstantiated online claim from an unreliable source, ‘Warri Aproko II,’ suggesting that NCoS officers are releasing inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Warri for ‘Omila operations’ and later returning them. These claims are entirely fabricated.”

The NCoS stressed that such allegations were completely false, adding, “This report is not only baseless but also unpatriotic and a deliberate attempt to create unrest in Warri and tarnish the reputation of our institution. It’s essential to clarify that no inmate, particularly those on Death Row, is ever permitted near the gates, let alone engage in criminal acts like robbery.”
The statement also took aim at the anonymous source behind the rumors, stating, “The writer clearly lacks an understanding of NCoS operational procedures.

‘Warri Aproko’ has no official contact details and operates solely through a faceless Facebook account, spreading unverified claims.”

The Delta State Command concluded by urging the media to ensure proper verification of sources before reporting, reiterating its commitment to maintaining justice and its responsibility for the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates into society after they have served their sentences.
