Iluyomade saga: RCCG appoints new Pastor for City of David Parish

After months of controversy, the Governing Council of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has appointed Pastor Kayode Pitan, the former Managing Director of the Bank of Industry (BOI), as the new Senior Pastor of the City of David Parish in Lagos.

Pitan’s appointment follows the suspension of the former Senior Pastor, Idowu Iluyomade, two months ago due to allegations of corruption and his refusal to accept a transfer.

Pastor Charles Kpandei, who has been temporarily overseeing the parish since Iluyomade’s suspension, will now hand over leadership to Pitan.

Although the church did not formally announce Pitan’s appointment during its recent national convention, sources within the organization have confirmed that his promotion signals the end of Iluyomade’s tenure at the City of David.

Insiders indicated that Pitan was chosen for the position due to his significant experience in the corporate sector, which is expected to be valuable in managing the Trinity Tower Project as he leads the church.

While Iluyomade has yet to make a public statement regarding the decision, reports suggest that he is dissatisfied with the outcome, leaving his future with RCCG uncertain.

In his new role, Pastor Pitan will serve as the Pastor-in-Charge of Region 20, with the City of David as the regional headquarters. Pastor Ben Akabueze has been appointed as the Assistant Pastor.
