Nigeria’s rising Footballer slumps, dies during training

A young footballer, Chisom Oodo, passed away on Sunday, reportedly from a cardiac arrest during a training session in Ogrute, the headquarters of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Enugu State.

Chisom, who was in his early 20s, collapsed and died while contesting for the ball with an opponent during routine practice.

It was reported that he had traveled from his hometown, Aji, also located within the same local government area, to participate in the training when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Chisom’s football talent had gained attention during the Enugu-Ezike Football Tournament last Christmas, where he showcased remarkable skills on the field.

According to Franklin Onyeoma, a fan of the late footballer, Chisom had been selected by a scout for an opportunity to play in Europe, with his passport and visa already prepared for the journey. The tragic event has cast a pall of grief over the entire community.
