Following a prison break early Tuesday morning in Osun State, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has released the details of seven inmates who managed to escape from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa.
The jailbreak happened around 2 a.m. on May 20, 2025, after a heavy rainstorm weakened the facility’s perimeter barrier, allowing the inmates to flee.
The escape has prompted the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to mandate a full-scale investigation into the circumstances, MCC news reported.
In a press release signed by the NCoS spokesperson, Deputy Controller Umar Abubakar, the following individuals were identified as the escapees:
John Michael (34), Emene, Enugu State
Tobi Akin (19), Oke Ejigbo, Osun State
Eze Nweze (40), Ikorodu, Lagos State
Olalekan Ajofoyinbo (45), Ilupeju Ekiti, Ekiti State
Ninalowo Yusuf (28), Ojo, Lagos State
Mattew Ogunjimi (20), Ikirun, Osun State
Kabiru Oyedun (39), Omu, Lagos State
In a public appeal, the NCoS stated: “The Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a reward of N5 million is available to anyone who provides information leading to the recapture of the inmates who escaped from Ilesa.”
The Service also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, adding, “All reports will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality and anonymity.”
