ISWAP attack on Marte thwarted by Nigerian troops, two soldiers killed

-

An attempted incursion by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters into Marte, a town in Borno State, was repelled by Nigerian troops in the early hours of Monday.

The attack, which occurred around 2 a.m., was met with a swift response from soldiers stationed in the area.

Reinforcements from the Brigade Headquarters and aerial support from the Nigerian Air Force played a crucial role in pushing back the insurgents.

During the confrontation, two Nigerian soldiers were killed while defending the town.

Despite the loss, the military successfully prevented the terrorists from advancing further.

Before retreating, the attackers set fire to a number of unserviceable military vehicles.

They reportedly fled with a few motorcycles and two vehicles but were unable to take any weapons or equipment.

Security sources confirmed that Marte remains fully under military control.

The Brigade Commander has arrived in the area to supervise follow-up operations and strengthen the town’s defenses.
