BREAKING: Alex Otti, Sen Kingibe suspended as crisis in Labour Party deepens

The Labour Party (LP) on Wednesday moved to discipline several of its senior figures, announcing the indefinite suspension of Abia State Governor Alex Otti and five other top members over accusations of undermining the party’s unity.

The suspended individuals—Senators Ireti Kingibe and Darlington Nwokocha, as well as House members Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowunmi—were cited in a disciplinary committee report that accused them of engaging in activities against the party’s interests.

A five-member panel, led by Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi and supported by National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, had been constituted by the NEC on May 2, 2025, to look into these allegations.

Following a comprehensive investigation, the committee submitted its findings, which were endorsed by the party’s national leadership on May 7.

The party stressed that all six members have been removed from official functions within LP, and relevant authorities have been notified of their suspension.
